2022 FIFA World Cup Recap: England defeat Iran, Netherlands defeat Senegal and Wales-USA. USA tie 1-1

2022 FIFA World Cup round-up: Saka scores a brace against Iran, while Bale converts a late penalty to help Wales earn a point against the USA.

USA vs. Wales, Group B, FIFA World Cup 2022 Live Scorecard: Wales captain Gareth Bale converted a penalty in the 82nd minute as the Welsh Dragons walked away with a point against an upbeat USA side Earlier, Timothy Weah rained down on the Welsh party when his only goal separated the team after the first half. A young and upbeat USA team outplayed and outclassed a ragged Wales team as Gareth Bale’s side struggled to gain a foothold in the match. A clever pass from Christian Pulisic sent Weah on his way as he slid the ball past an advancing goalkeeper to give his team something to cheer about.

In the last match, rising star Cody Gakpo saved the Netherlands from blushing when his only goal around the 85th minute helped the Dutch overtake Senegal. With Senegal pushing ever deeper, De Jong controlled the ball, uncontested, on the brink of the final third before seeing Gakpo’s run before anyone else on the pitch, and playing into a taunting, curling, brilliantly weighted cross that resulted in the header goal. The match went well beyond Senegal when Davy Klaassen passed the ball past goalkeeper Mendy just at the moment of death.

Earlier, England stormed out in their first World Cup group stage game against Iran, taking a 3-0 halftime lead. Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling put England in the lead when Iran suffered an early setback after their first-choice goalkeeper had to be stretchered off after a collision with an England striker. In the second half, Saka completed his brace, while Manchester boys Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish made an instant impact after coming off the bench and added the final two nails in Iran’s coffin.
