Target: Arsenal interested in a January move to Facundo Torres (Getty Images)
Arsenal will soon be talking about a possible transfer to Facundo Torres, confirmed the player’s agent.
The Orlando City forward has emerged as a January target for Premier League leaders looking to compete for Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal’s interest in Torres is believed to have sprung in part from the discoveries of scout Toni Lima. Since technical director Edu was appointed at Emirates Stadium in 2019, the club has shifted to a more data-driven approach when identifying potential signings.
Torres only joined the MLS squad in January from Penarol, but has since impressed, scoring nine goals and recording 10 assists in 39 games.
Despite Arsenal’s shift to a more data-driven approach when it comes to researching the market, Lima – who was named in 2021 – has a strong track record of identifying South American talent and is credited with being among the first to identify Neymar and Philippe Coutinho.
Speaking to ESPN, agent Edgardo Lasalvia confirmed that he will soon meet with Lima, although he stressed that “nothing is advanced yet.”
