Dortmund set February cutoff time for Erling Haaland future choice

Borussia Dortmund have told Erling Haaland that the superstar needs to make a decision on his future before the end of February.

German outlet Bild reports that the Bundesliga giants have set a deadline for their prized asset to choose whether he wants to stay or pursue a new chapter.

The newspaper claims that it has been agreed between the club and the Norwegian that a decision will have to be made before the end of February.

The 21-year-old’s contract expires in 2024, but the formidable forward has a release clause that would allow him to leave for a fee reported to be between €75-90 million at the end of the season.

Haaland has been linked with a move to every big club across Europe, but Bild claim that Dortmund haven’t given up hope of the wonderkid putting pen-to-paper on a new lucrative contract.

With his agent Mino Raiola likely to have a big say in where his client will end up, Manchester United will be hoping the influence of Ralf Rangnick can swing the pendulum in our favour.

Haaland joined Austrian side RB Salzburg from Molde in January 2019, a club which Rangnick had a massive influence on during his time as the club’s sporting director.

Whilst Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to break records across football, Haaland has the potential to run the legendary duo close if he maintains his current rate.

He has 19 goals from 16 appearances so far this season and he has missed 10 games due to injury. His absence meant that Dortmund didn’t qualify for the Champions League last-16, and they will face Rangers in the Europa League.

From 75 Dortmund games, the Norwegian international has 76 goals and 20 assists to his name, which is a staggering return.

It’ll take a monumental effort to surpass Ronaldo’s 140 and counting goals as the Champions League’s all-time top goalscorer, but Haaland already has 23 goals from 19 games, in the world’s top club competition.

Every European powerhouse will be hoping that Haaland chooses them as his next destination and it looks like we could receive a big update on the Dortmund number nine’s plans by the end of February.
