It’s a shame, I feel sorry for him – Jordi Alba reacts to Piqué’s sudden withdrawal

Barcelona captain Jordi Alba has said he feels sorry for teammate Gerard Pique’s retirement.

Piqué retired from football on Saturdays. The legendary former Spain international ended his career with Barcelona in the 82nd minute of their 2-0 La Liga win on Saturday.

Alba said the decision by his former club and international teammate came as a surprise.

Piqué announced on Thursday that yesterday’s match will be the last for the Catalans.

Alba, who took charge of the captain’s band, told reporters: “I’m sorry. I am grateful for everything he has given us all.

“He has done a lot for the club. In the end, it’s a shame. His absence will be noted. Not just in football, but in human terms. it is the law of life.

“He has left his soul in each game. It’s a shame.”
