Juventus coach Allegri on Champions League elimination: We should focus on Serie A

Juventus coach Max Allegri says it’s time to move on after their 4-3 Champions League defeat at Benfica.

As a result, Juve was eliminated from the competition.

“After the draw, you can’t immediately concede another goal like that from a penalty. We made life difficult for ourselves, we didn’t take two chances with Vlahovic, and after the break we lost 4-1,” Allegri told Sky Italia.

“This elimination hurts, we are angry and disappointed, but we have to focus now on Serie A and catch up because it was not a good start to the season and we need to recover physical and mental energy.

“We must accept this elimination and transform this disappointment into motivation for the next match against Lecce. Elimination was certainly sealed before that, but we should still have stayed in the game as we realized, despite a poor first half, that we could still hurt Benfica.

“Unfortunately, we made it more difficult for ourselves and Soule could have scored to give us hope of winning in the closing minutes.”

He also said: “Benfica put a lot of pressure at the beginning, they were dangerous on the counterattack and I expected Miretti-Milik to improve their quality level in the second half, but by then we were already losing 4-1. Iling has been training with us for 20 days, these young players have enthusiasm and don’t feel the pressure.

“We’re still in the Europa League now, we were hoping the final match would be worth more, but unfortunately it’s only worth one place in the Europa League.”
