WHAT HAPPENED? The defender confirmed in a video on social media that he will retire from football after Barcelona’s clash with Almeria on Saturday in La Liga. Piqué has fallen out of favor at the Camp Nou this season, making just three appearances in La Liga, and has decided to end his trophy-laden career.

THE BIGGEST PICTURE: Piqué has fallen behind Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia in the Barcelona hierarchy this season and has spent most of the campaign on the bench. The centre-back previously said he would rather retire than accept being a substitute for an entire season and now looks ready to keep his word.

WHAT DOES PIQUE DO? The defender will bid farewell to Barcelona fans on Saturday at Camp Nou against Almeria in what should be an emotional game for the 35-year-old club legend.
