Inter striker Romelu Lukaku will likely not be fit in time to return for the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Atalanta before the World Cup break.
That’s according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta.it, which reports that the 29-year-old is not expected to play for Inter again until Serie A returns in January.
Lukaku missed last night’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich and will also be out of this weekend’s Serie A match against Juventus.
The Belgian is currently with the doctors of the national team where his state of health is being evaluated with a view to when he will be able to return.
There’s still some chance the 29-year-old could make it back in time for the Nerazzurri’s matches against Bologna and Atalanta before the World Cup break, but that’s not likely.
Lukaku will have his condition assessed in the coming days and a definitive determination will be made as to whether he can be available for Inter before the break.
