U23 AFCON: Triumph of the Olympic Eagles in Ibadan

Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles secured qualification for the African Under-23 Cup of Nations final qualifying round with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Tanzania.

In the second leg at Ibadan’s Lekan Salami Stadium on Saturday, the eagles had to wait, but in the end, two second-half goals sealed their progress.

Ogunniyi Oluwatimilehin opened the scoring in the 59th minute and gave Nigeria a 2-1 aggregate lead – the first leg ended 1-1 in Dar es Salaam.

In the 67th minute, team captain Success Makanjuola increased his score in the tie and eliminated the match, while Salisu Yusuf and his men advanced.

Meanwhile, the team also earned one million naira from the senior winger of the Nigeria men’s national team, Ahmed Musa, who promised the Olympic eagles five hundred thousand naira for every goal scored in the game.

Nigeria will then face Uganda or Guinea for a spot at AFCON U-23.
