Back-to-back wins over Milan took Chelsea from the bottom of Group E to the top. The two-time champion still has work to do to qualify, however.
Just three points separate the four teams in the group as Chelsea head to second-placed Salzburg on Tuesday and Milan travel to Dinamo Zagreb. The loser of the game in Zagreb will likely be eliminated from contention.
If there is a tie, the winner of the Salzburg-Chelsea match will advance. Salzburg are looking to advance to the round of 16 for the second year in a row, while Chelsea have not failed to advance from the group stage since the 2012-13 season – when they were reigning champions.
Even if Chelsea lose in Austria, the team will have another chance to qualify when Dynamo visit Stamford Bridge in the final round.
Sevilla, on the other hand, host FC Copenhagen, on the verge of being eliminated from the competition, on Tuesday. The Spanish team also has a chance of finishing third and losing a spot in the Europa League.
Sevilla’s form in the Champions League reflects their domestic performance, where the team is languishing in 15th.
